Measurements-based Method for Impedance Characterization of Residential Loads

Abstract: The load impedance
characterization problem in the residential environment is addressed in this
work. The transfer function of any point-to-point link in the indoor power line
environment depends on the communications characteristics of the medium and the
presence of residential loads, in the form of electrical appliances. Measuring
the transfer function changes in an experimental set-up that are caused by an
unknown residential load can be exploited to determine the value of its
impedance. In this paper, we propose two new methods for such determination and
analyze their accuracy and performance limitations.
